Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008

Basically, Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008 (or MSCMDM08 for "short") empowers IT staff to lock down, er, manage and integrate corporate Windows Mobile 6 devices per Windows domain policy, including new types of VPN connectivity and forcing granular automatic overrides like shutting off each device's camera -- as necessary, of course. MSCMDM08 will be available to the suits as a simple software upgrade package to Windows Mobile 6 -- not that they'll care, except when their phone stops functioning like they want it to, and starts functioning like Roy the IT dude wants.

Samsung reveals first 30-nm 64Gb NAND chip

We're not sure what's more impressive here: the fact that Samsung has produced the world's first 30nm-class 64Gb (bit, not byte!) NAND chip or that they're now roping defenseless product waifs into hawking their silicon wafers. Nevertheless, we're looking at a serious jump in density in just 10 months. A maximum of 16 of the new chips can be combined for cost-effective 128GB (byte, not bit!) MLC NAND-based flash cards used primarily for data storage. Sammy's faster SLC based flash cards will still be the preferred choice when speed is of the utmost priority and cost isn't an issue. As such, Samsung also announced a 32Gb SLC NAND chip based on the same SaDPT (Self-aligned double patterning technology) manufacturing process. Sadly, we'll have to wait until 2009 for production to begin. Still, he looks happy dontchathink?

Don't Eat My Brains!

We do it every day, though mostly without thinking about it - we get angry at the stapler that mangled our presentation, or the phone when it can't get a signal. We say we "love this coffee mug," and sometimes we even imagine a face on the clock on the wall. It's called anthropomorphizing, and it's where we imbue human characteristics to inanimate objects.

But are they really inanimate? Certain mythologies suggest that the more we use and include these objects in our daily lives, the more connected they become with our lives, thoughts and feelings. They are pleased when we use them, and are sad when they're discarded. Think back to that stuffed monkey doll you had when you were a kid. You threw him away one day, and there he sits - vacuously staring at rotting garbage in a landfill for all eternity. Not very nice at all!

So some of these objects can be construed as to have a personality. Why not make it official? Stick a couple of googly eyes, and a goofy grin on a coffee mug, and hey-presto! Your happy smilin' coffee-buddy is happy to let you drink from his skull! That letter-scale looks a little like Domokun, doesn't he? I think that tape dispenser has something evil on his mind… Hmm…

Two sheets of eyes and mouths in various shapes, sizes and expressions, more than 100 stickers, are waiting for you to give life to the lifeless. That's sorta godlike!

Driving LED Emoticon

The Driving LED Emoticon is a battery powered, wirelessly controlled message sign that can be attached to the rear window of your car via the included suction cup. A remote control unit is kept in the front of the car (fixed to front window, dash, or laid in a storage compartment) to activate the messages by pressing one of its buttons.

It can display any one of five different messages - smiling face, frowning face, "Thanks", "Back Off" and "Idiot".

Weather-proof BenQ M7 expected

Obviously, BenQ are set on expanding their mobile handsets portfolio even if their collaboration with Siemens didn't turn out right. The BenQ M7 will be their latest handset once it's officially announced (expected in November). For now will have to rely on information and photos from mobile01.com and sogi.com.tw

The BenQ M7 builds upon the successful Siemens M-series that included handsets with increased weather resistance back in the day. The new handset features the same splash and dust resistant body and is 3G-enabled. It sports a 262K color TFT display with a QVGA resolution plus a 2 megapixel main camera and a secondary one for video calls. Among the other cool features of the compact M7 is the GPS receiver with support for the A-GPS service (Assisted GPS). There is also Bluetooth support and a microSD card slot.
